Nestled within the serene and lush landscapes of the Northern part of Croatia, this A-frame weekend house is designed to be integrated with its natural surroundings. Set against the backdrop of a heavily forested area, the house exudes a sense of modernity while respecting the tranquility of its environment. Its innovative blend of steel, wood, and concrete materials create a visual identity that both contrasts and complements the surrounding nature. The design concept revolves around the integration of modern aesthetics and sustainable architecture within a compact footprint. The A-frame structure, with its iconic pitched roof, offers a harmonious blend of form and function. The design is intended to maximize the connection between the interior and the breathtaking forest outside, facilitating an immersive experience with nature.
The house’s façade is dominated by a vast expanse of glass that stretches across the entirety of the front elevation, facing the forest. This glass curtain not only serves as a striking architectural element but also blurs the boundary between indoor and outdoor spaces. It allows an abundance of natural light to flood the interior and offers panoramic views of the surrounding greenery, ensuring that the residents are consistently connected to the changing seasons and natural beauty of the forest.
The upper part of the A-frame structure is crafted predominantly from steel and wood. The steel framework, treated with a protective coating to withstand the region’s climate, provides structural stability while imparting an industrial touch to the design. Wooden interior cladding gives a warm and organic appearance that softens the starkness of the steel and establishes a visual connection with the surrounding trees. In contrast, the lower basement part of the house is constructed from concrete. This provides a stable foundation while also serving as a cooling element, mitigating temperature fluctuations and contributing to the house’s energy efficiency.
