The concept of the swimming pool complex is based on the logic of the terrain, structural simplicity, and the metaphor of place. The space is shaped through clear architectural elements: a supporting lamella, columns and trusses, a glass envelope, and a four-pitched roof. The natural difference in ground elevation is organized into two levels—a higher entrance plateau with pavilions and a lower, protected pool area. A central, covered glass framework connects both levels, with an emphasis on preserving openness and the natural surroundings, and with wood as the dominant visible structural material.
The spatial concept derives from the sports function and the urban context of Novi Dvori. The entrance is organized from Ban Josip Jelačić Street, with parking areas and an access square leading into the interior of the building. The rectangular volume of the swimming facility is surrounded by an athletics track, and the entrance area is designed as a gallery with pavilions, resting areas, a hall, and a café bar. Clear visual connections toward the pool and sports facilities are provided.
Service facilities (changing rooms, lockers, sanitary areas, wellness facilities, and a children’s pool) are organized within the longitudinal supporting lamella, while the pool hall is generously naturally lit from all sides, with protection from excessive solar exposure provided by a large roof overhang. Technical spaces are minimized and located beneath the pool.
The overall architectural composition arises from the functional, spatial-physical, and semantic conditions of the site, combining wood, steel, glass, and aluminum, and featuring a uniquely designed ground plane and interior.
